Oculus

Ten years after a traumatic event, siblings team up to attempt to destroy the evil mirror that they believe to be responsible.  Interesting plot, good use of non-linear story telling.  I liked the ending as written, but I found it lacked the punch that it needed in the execution.  I loved watching Karen Gillan on the big screen, I was initially expecting Scottish lilt, but her American accent was flawless.  7/10

Soul

After collapsing at work, a man wakes with his soul replaced by that of a killer, and his father will stop at nothing to protect his son.  A lot tedious, a little incoherent.  All of the questions that you wanted to be answered as a viewer were not answered.  At the very end, the dream that was supposed to explain what the whole thing was about just left the viewer more confused.  One is left to wonder what the point was of anything that happened in this film.  4/10

Afflicted

Two best friends set off on a year long, around the world trip of a lifetime, when one of them comes down with a mysterious affliction.  Done in found-footage style (the travelers are video blogging their adventures) with DSLRs, expect much of the film to be out of focus.  Given that I hate most found-footage films, this one isn’t bad, and an excellent first effort by the writers/directors/actors.  6/10
