TIFF 2009 Day 5

It was a good day today, three very strong films

The Disappearance of Alice Creed
Great kidnapping story with lots of twists and turns. Superb execution, terrific acting and great camera work. It kind of reminded me of Reservoir Dogs since most of this film takes place in one location. 9/10

Director J. Blakeson, Eddie Marsan, and Martin Compston

The Invention of Lying
Hilarious film about a guy who invents lying in a universe where nobody is capable of lying. Throw in some social and religious subtexts and you’ve got a darn good film. Most of the characters were very shallow, but I found that Jennifer Garner had a too shallow Barbie doll quality to her. 9/10

Bitch Slap
Ha! This film is an absolute hoot. Imagine Russ Meyers making a 70’s style action film today. Lots of T, lots of A, and lots of explosions. I have got to get this on BD when it comes out. The only weaknesses were, the CG backgrounds were a bit too cheesy, and the threads holding the little bits of plot together were a bit tenuous. Nevertheless, you will be entertained. 9/10.
